Ensure that your hair is clean, dry, and well-conditioned before installing the braids. It's best to wash and deep condition your natural hair before starting the process.
Create a foundation for the crochet braids by either cornrowing or braiding your natural hair. The pattern and size of the cornrows or braids will depend on the style you want to achieve & the desired placement of the crochet braids.
Separate the braids and have them ready for installation. You can choose the length and thickness of the braids according to your desired style.
You will need crochet hair extensions, a crochet needle, and possibly hair clips or rubber bands to hold sections of hair in place.
Take a small section of your natural hair and attach it to the crochet needle. Insert the needle under a cornrow or braid in the desired area, close to the roots. Open the latch on the needle, hook it onto the crochet hair, and close the latch. Then, carefully pull the crochet needle and the hair through the cornrow or braid, leaving a loop on the other side.
Fold the crochet hair in half, so both ends meet. Insert the ends of the crochet hair through the loop created in step 4. Pull the ends of the hair through the loop, tightening it securely around the cornrow or braid. This secures the crochet hair in place.
Move to the next section of hair, adjacent to the first, and repeat steps 4 and 5. Continue this process, working your way around the head until all desired sections are filled with crochet hair.
Once all the crochet hair is installed, you can style the braids as desired. You can leave them loose, create updos, or try different braid patterns. Experiment with different styles to find what suits you best.
